Republican U.S. Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian announced his support of a proposal to freeze all earmark spending and in favor of a Balanced Budget Amendment. Tarkanian has signed the "No Earmarks Pledge" sponsored by Citizens against Government Waste.
"I support a complete ban on all earmarks. If a state wants to pay for a project, then they should prioritize it in their own state budget," said Tarkanian. "I would also support a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. This is something Harry Reid has opposed since he ran for Senate in 1986."
"This is a major distinction between Danny Tarkanian and the establishment candidate in this race," said Tarkanian campaign manager Brian Seitchik. "The establishment candidate in this primary voted for pork in the state legislature and now says she thinks Harry Reid hasn't done enough to bring projects back to Nevada. So while Harry Reid and Sue Lowden are engaged in a 'pork race to the bottom,' Danny Tarkanian is giving the voters the option to vote for a candidate who will ban the practice of special projects and vote-buying."
"Moreover, our opponent Sue Lowden was supporting Harry Reid even while he opposed a balanced budget amendment in 1986," continued Seitchik. 'Hopefully today she supports Danny Tarkanian's point of view."
